GILL Crayston claimed a countback victory, as more than 50 players battled it out in Colchester Golf Club's Ladies Autumn Meeting.

She took the glory of the Autumn Trophy, after scoring 36 points.

Lady captain Sheila Dornan and her team of Annie Johnston and Cherie Clark won the afternoon team stableford with 33 points, on the front nine.

The team of Pat Kettle, Cathy Burchell and Julie Dicks won the stableford on the back nine holes with a triumphant score of 42 points, on countback.

The Moy Cup, a popular bogey competition which was donated to the club in 1941, was won by Dennis Brown (12).

He won on countback to Shaun Holmes (11) on +3.

Creditable scores of +2 were recorded by Robert Svensson (15) and Daniel Nicholls (5).

Colchester GC's younger players took part in the Mini Junior Championship, played on the main course.

The under-12 golfers played the front ten holes, with the under-nines playing the first four holes.

The tournament itself was full of fantastic individual performances.

Nico Barnes and Theo Baker (both aged 12) were tied after ten holes with a fantastic score of +10 gross.

This led to a single hole play-off, where defending champion Barnes made a fantastic up and down three for victory.

In the girls' section, it was just as tight.

Sian Roberts and Holly Collins were a single shot apart, playing the last hole.

With a one-shot lead Roberts could not quite close it out and Collins won by a single shot to be crowned girls' champion.

In the under-nine division, six-year-old Noah was just denied by George Clark, who managed to secure victory with just 25 shots over the four holes.

It was a fabulous end to a great year of junior coaching at the Colchester Junior Golf Academy.
