THE St Osyth Scorpions have been crowned as the first-ever winners of the Cannons Key Stage Two Basketball League.

They won after after victory in the last league meeting, at Clacton County High School.

All the teams involved showed great development, after just a few months of training.

Mayflower Mavericks were unable to attend due to a last-minute school commitment so a guest Cannons team took their place and, in their first game, lost 28-10 to the Holland Park Panthers.

The second game saw St Osyth play the Cannons team, with both sides carrying on the high scoring, playing at an exciting tempo as St Osyth eventually won 26-20.

The final game saw St Osyth up against against the Holland Park Panthers and the final result was a hard-fought 24-12 win for the Scorpions.

All the pupils showed great team spirit and skill, conducting themselves in the right manner and doing themselves and their schools proud.

Organisers Cannons 2006 would like to thank all the children, parents, sponsors, schools and children for making the first season of the league a success.

Next season's league, sponsored by Tendring Telecoms and Security Systems, starts in September.
