SABINE Klapper was victorious in Harwich Runners’ summer five-mile handicap race.

With 42 members racing against a predicted finish time for the distance in the country roads outside Lawford, Klapper beat her estimated time by nearly five minutes to finish in 65 minutes and 18 seconds.

This was also a 30-second personal best (PB).

Conditions were favourable and many runners recorded new PBs.

William Roxby-Clarke knocked over a minute off his previous fastest with a finish time of 35m 54s, while there were also impressive new PBs for Anne Herbert (44m 51s) and Phil Sanderson (33m 31s).

Roger Holmes is new to running and Harwich and this was only his second race over this distance.

A time of 33m 14s was more than a minute quicker than his recent outing at Capel.

For Sharan Rider, it was an improvement of nearly a minute on her Kirton time from early June, recording 37m 29s.

This was Shaun Tye’s first appearance over this distance since joining Harwich Runners and he posted 38m 26s.

Justin Cooper-Keeble improved on his PB by 20 seconds (35m 25s) while there were big PBs for Steven Rowse, by four minutes (44m 10s), Miles Doran, by eight minutes (42m 23s), and Katie Holmes, by three minutes (41m 23s).

The fastest times recorded on the night were by Rob Reason, who posted 27m 30s, and Mark Lloyd, who zipped round in 29m 17s.

Third fastest and also recording a huge PB was Robin Brookes, who finished in 29m 44s.

Elsewhere, Robin Brookes took on a five-mile trail run at Brandon called the Wibbly Wobbly Log Jog.

He continued his recent run of good form, finishing an excellent fourth overall in a field of 300 in a time of 32m 9s.

Paul Kerrison tackled the Giants Head Marathon, finishing in 5h 47m 55s and placing 101st out of 187.

Clare McKenna completed the Sydling Hill 11k race in 1h 11m 29s, finishing 75th out of 112.

Two Harwich runners were present at the second race in the Ipswich 5km series. Becky McCorquodale finished as second lady and 18th overall in a time of 22m 40s, while Jason Meachen was 12th of the 81 runners in 21m 29s.
