A ROUNDABOUT branded "a danger" is finally going to be resurfaced after months of complaints about bad potholes.
The pothole on the roundabout between Layer Road and Berechurch Hall Road has been causing problems for drivers on a daily basis.
Residents in the area and councillors alike claim they had been reporting the problem for weeks beforehand, to no avail.
Dave Harris, ward councillor for Berechurch, recently visited the site with Claire Osborne, who both noticed signs around the area stating work is due to start on April 22.
Dave said: "This is great news, the roundabout is getting a long-awaited full resurface and makeover.
"Motorcyclists and cyclists will be much safer after the work has been done and car drivers who report worry over damage to cars will feel more secure over using the roundabout."
Although the works will mean temporary traffic lights will be installed in the area, Claire is looking forward to seeing the resurfaced roundabout.
Claire said: "We know there will be traffic delays and disruption but as long as we get the end result I am content.
"Just try and plan an earlier journey so there is no disruption to your plans."
Motorists and residents of the area are very pleased with the news and look forward to the new and improved look of the roundabout.
Melanie Capel, a frequent user of the roundabout, said: "This is brilliant news, the roundabout has been slowing traffic down as people have been trying to avoid the huge pothole.
"I am surprised nobody has really damaged their cars or bikes."
A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: "The resurfacing works at Berechurch Hall Road and Layer Road roundabout are due to take place as part of the 2024/25 capital works programme.
"There will be a road closure in place at all times due to the nature of works, and to protect the workforce and road users. However, access for emergency vehicles and residents will be maintained.
"Diversion routes will be in place at all times, from Gosbecks Road, B1022, A134 Southway, B1025, and Berechurch Road.

Dave Harris is standing for election for the Berechurch ward in May.
The other candidates are Karen Chaplin (Lib), John Clifton (Grn) and Bevan Waghorn (Con).
