Saturday 23rd March was Suffolk Libraries Day. This is a fundraising event during which a range of activities and events are hosted by various libraries in Suffolk which has been held annually since 2019.
Many of the events were spring themed due to a campaign called “Make a Difference With a Daisy”.
Some of the events that took place included:
At Ixworth Library, a raffle, book and bake sale was held, with similar events having taken place at other locations, including Tea and Coffee Mornings and other sales. Southwold Library and Haverhill Library held quiz nights.
Maggie Lusher, who works at Kesgrave Library, walked from her library and then to six other Ipswich libraries before walking back to Kesgrave with her dog. The total distance was 16.5 miles.
Maureen, manager at Stradbroke Library challenged herself to read her own height in books. This challenge can be supported by the online GoFundMe page. The pile of books spans 5ft 2inch, with approximately 18,000 pages.
There was also an author talk with C.L. Miller at Thurston Library.
As well as raising money, the events are important for “nurturing children’s literacy, tackling isolation and promoting wellbeing”.
A range of events throughout the day at different locations raised and are continuing to raise money for Suffolk Libraries to keep them running and providing the vital service they do towards the community. Over the course of 5 years, over £50,000 has been raised for the libraries.
Thank you to Suffolk Libraries for providing the images and the information about this event.
