A HOLIDAY park announced it has made an “unfortunate decision” to cancel its fireworks display at the weekend.

Waldegraves Holiday Park was due to host its family fireworks night at the site in Waldegraves Lane, West Mersea, on Saturday .

A statement revealed “recent weather conditions along with the forecast leading up to the event” led to the decision.

It added: “We apologise for the disappointment caused.”

Proceeds from the event’s car parking fees were set to go to charity, with the display commencing at 7.30pm.

Heavy rain and strong winds are set to batter the UK later this week.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Periods of heavy rain or showers are likely to affect much of the UK from late Wednesday through Thursday.

“The highest rainfall amounts are likely in southern and western areas, where a further 20 to 25mm is possible quite widely, and especially over high ground, where 40 to 60mm could fall in this period.”
