A TEENAGER who denied attempted murder following a stabbing in Colchester will be sentenced in December after admitting a less serious charge.

Adjourning sentencing for a pre-sentence report, Judge Martyn Levett warned 18-year-old Zac Henry not to expect anything other than an immediate custodial sentence.

Henry of Maple Court, Cambridge, had denied attempted murder, and his trial was due to have started at Ipswich Crown Court last month but was adjourned.

This morning (Wednesday) he appeared before the court via a video link from prison and admitted a charge of unlawful wounding.

Judge Levett directed that a not guilty verdict should be entered on the court record on the attempted murder charge after the prosecution offered no evidence.

Sentence was adjourned until December 13 to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared on Henry, who has also admitted two charges of possessing heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply.

Police officers were called to Magdalen Street, Colchester, at about 11pm on March 31 following reports that a man had been stabbed.

Shortly after the authorities arrived on the scene, Magdalen Street and George Williams Way were cordoned off to members of the public.
