A SHOPPING precinct in Colchester city centre is to be transformed into a winter wonderland next month.
Lion Walk Shopping Centre will switch its Christmas lights on during an evening packed with live entertainment and fireworks.
Centre boss Martin Leatherdale has promised the best lineup “we have ever had” for the festivities kicking off at 6pm on November 15.
The Lion Walk courtyard will be transformed into a gingerbread house themed destination offering food and drinks throughout the Christmas season.
Families will be able to meet Father Christmas in his grotto amid a background of live bands, comedians and children’s entertainment.
November 15 will mark the first of five late night shopping events in Lion Walk following the lights switch on in the courtyard.
A festive light parade and Christmas market will be held, while appearances from Frozen’s Elsa and Anna, as well as a touch of mischief from the Grinch, will be enjoyed.
The cast of this year’s Mercury Theatre pantomime Sleeping Beauty will get on stage amid a programme also featuring local singer Yazmin Wood and DJ Darral Wright.
Mr Leatherdale said: “Without doubt, this is the best lineup for Christmas activity we have ever had at Lion Walk.
“We can’t wait to welcome visitors to Colchester this Christmas.
“Not only is it a great place to get ahead on your Christmas shopping, but it’s also a brilliant place to enjoy some family fun together and make Christmas this year just that little bit extra special.”
Actual Radio will be hosting the fun from 6pm next month, which will also feature a visit from Father Christmas.
A spectacular fireworks display will light up the sky as city centre visitors get into the festive spirit.
Mr Leatherdale added: “The festive light switch on will see a fabulous launch to the start of our Christmas celebrations.
“[There will be] incredible live entertainment and a grand finale of the light switch on, and an astounding firework display with music legends and our special guests pressing the button.
“It will start the lift off for an incredible Christmas in Colchester.”
