Mitchell Cowling admits £182,000 fraud scheme in Maldon

Mitchell Cowling, son of U’s owner Robbie, attempted to sell false stock investments to his victim from February 2014 to December 2016.

The 36-year-old appeared before Chelmsford Crown Court this morning (Friday) to be sentenced having admitted fraud and making fraudulent invoices to commit fraud.

However, sentencing was adjourned until late October as Recorder Alun Eynon-Evans said he wanted “to be clear on the facts” of the case.

Mitchell Cowling, of Colchester Road, Great Totham, was released on unconditional bail until his sentencing date.

The defendant, who is the club general manager at Maldon and Tiptree Football Club, wore a grey suit during the hearing.

He was supported by his dad who sat in the public gallery while the case was heard.

Mitchell  Cowling was warned by Mr Eynon-Evans to attend the court in person when he is due to return.

He said: “You are released on unconditional bail until your adjourned sentencing.

“You will need to come back to court for that. If you don’t, sentencing will be continued in your absence.

“The fact that you are on bail until then is no indication of what the sentence will be.”
