Judge Martyn Levett directed that a further hearing should take place on Wednesday to see if the trial, which is expected to last seven days, will be able to get underway the following week on September 25.

The defendants were both remanded in custody.

Officers were called to Magdalen Street at about 11pm on March 31 following reports that a man had been stabbed.

He was then taken to hospital in a serious condition.

George Williams Way and part of Magdalen Street was immediately cordoned off by the authorities, with four police cars in attendance.

The cordon was scaled down in the early hours of Saturday morning, though nearby George Williams Way remained closed to members of the public for several hours.
