AS we revel in the sunkissed joys of summer, naturally we tend to head out and about a lot more.

But with most day trips, there typically comes the need to find parking.

Thankfully, whether you're shopping, enjoying Colchester's amenities or looking for somewhere to park for work, parking in Colchester is reasonably priced with some great offers.

But which car parks have the best value for money?

Butt Road Car Park

Butt Road car park is a long stay car park with 120 spaces.

It is open for 24 hours, seven days a week including public holidays.

Butt Road offers up to four hours parking from Monday to Sunday for just £1.50, or £3 from 6am to 6pm.

There is also a 50p per hour offer only available to motorists who have registered for and use the active travel scheme, Park Active.

Napier Road North and South Car Park

Both of these sites are long stay car parks with 85 spaces open for 24 hours, seven days a week including public holidays.

Residents can park for up to four hours for just £3 all week.

They also offer up to four hours parking for just £1.50 on Monday to Saturday, or £3 for more than four hours.

There is also a 50p per hour offer for parking Monday to Saturday, between 6am and 6pm, for up to four hours, or £2 for more than four hours.

These two offers are only for motorists who have registered for and use the active travel scheme, Park Active.

St John’s Car Park

St John's Car Park is a long-stay multi-storey car park with 645 spaces.

Its opening hours are from Monday to Sunday from 5am to 7pm, and on public holidays from 9.30am to 5pm.

It is locked between 7pm and 5am and closed on Christmas Day.

Parking is just £4 for up to four hours Monday to Sunday.

St John’s also offers parking for £3 from Monday to Sunday, between 5am and 7pm, for up to four hours, or for parking between 2pm and 7pm it is £2.50

These offers are only available with the MiPermit app.

Brittania Car Park

Britannia car park is a long-stay car park with 369 spaces and is open for 24 hours, seven days a week including public holidays.

Parking is just £1 per hour up to eight hours all week.

It offers motorists all-day parking for £4 from Monday to Saturday between 6am and 6pm - this offer is only available with the MiPermit app.

St Mary’s Car Park

St Mary's car park is a short stay, multi-storey car park with 577 spaces and step-free access to the town centre.

It is open for 24 hours, seven days a week including public holidays.

Parking is available for £4 for up to four hours.

It is also on offer for £2.50 from Monday to Friday when parking between 2pm and 6am.

This offer is only available when paying for parking with the MiPermit app, text or phone. Not available at pay machines.

Priory Street Car Park

Priority Street is a short stay, pay-and-display car park with 169 spaces with step-free access to the city centre.

There is an offer here for just £2.50 from Monday to Friday when parking between 2pm and 6pm.

This offer is only available when paying for parking with the MiPermit app, text or phone. Not available at pay machines.

You can also park there for just £4 for up to four hours seven days per week.

Vineyard Street Car Park

Vineyard Street is a short-stay car park with 80 spaces and is open for 24 hours, seven days a week including public holidays.

Parking is just £3.90 from Monday to Saturday, between 9.30am and 6pm, for two hours.

This offer is only available with the MiPermit app.

A council spokesman added: “For extra peace of mind, many of our car parks have been awarded Park Mark status.

“You can be safe in the knowledge that the area has been vetted by the police and there is appropriate lighting, effective surveillance and a clean environment.

“All of our parking offers are available on MiPermit only, to align with Colchester’s parking strategy.”
