COLCHESTER Zoo has given an update to visitors who may have noticed a number of changes at the site in recent weeks.

The Maldon Road attraction said a number of areas are under development.

Back in July 2020 one of zoo's catering outlets located next to Sea Lion habitat, Playa Patagonia, suffered extensive damage due to a fire.

Luckily, no one was harmed, and the fire was contained quickly.

The zoo is now in a position to carry out refurbishments after difficult financial times over the pandemic prevented the work.

It will see the old shop turned into a new catering facility.

The Rock Hyrax habitat has also moved from its previous location at Aardvark Burrow to its new home located at the Inca Trail.

After being unused for nearly a decade, the old aviary enclosure in this area of the zoo has been transformed into a home suitable for small furry friends.

Their new habitat now includes plenty of beams and climbing apparatus for enrichment along with a large viewing window.
