A WOMAN bravely told her rapist about the devastating impact of his attacks on her as he was sentenced to ten years in prison.

Daniel Cox, 38, raped the woman while pinning her down as she cried and told him of the pain he was causing her.

Cox, of Albany Gardens, Colchester, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday where his victim said he had “made my life hell”.

She said: “I wish I never met Daniel. I feel trapped by him and what all of this has caused me.

“This feels like hell and I want to die.”

The victim claimed Cox’s behaviour heightened her self-consciousness and left her feeling suicidal.

Cox, who had already served more than 200 days on remand in police custody ahead of the sentencing, wiped his eyes as the woman spoke.

It followed a jury convicting him of three offences of rape and single offences of false imprisonment and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour earlier this month.

In a statement released through Essex Police, the victim added: “It’s important to know that it’s never too late to report something to the police.”

Cox will serve six years and eight months of his ten year sentence.
