RESIDENTS celebrated a significant milestone as the Essex Pedal Power initiative successfully provided the first set of 700 free bicycles to the community.

Ten residents of the Greenstead area became the recipients of the eco-friendly and convenient modes of transportation.

Essex Pedal Power aims to promote sustainable transportation and enhance bicycle accessibility for people across Colchester.

A spokesman from Colchester Council said: "We're thrilled to announce the first of 700 free bikes were given to Colchester residents.

"Over the weekend, ten Greenstead residents received free Essex Pedal Power bikes."

The initiative garnered significant attention since its announcement earlier this year, with the distribution of the initial batch of bikes marking a significant step forward.

The Essex Pedal Power initiative aims to address financial barriers that may hinder people from owning their own bikes, making cycling a viable and accessible transportation option.
