A SERIOUS accident on a busy main road left a driver needing to be rescued from a car by firefighters.

Fire crews from Coggeshall and Saffron Walden were called to Colne Road, Coggeshall, at 7.47am today following reports of an accident involving two vehicles.

Upon arriving at the scene emergency workers, including paramedics and police officers, found a motorist stranded inside their car.

After making the area safe for rush-hour commuters and pedestrians, firefighters worked to remove the trapped driver from the vehicle.

A spokesman for the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

“On arrival firefighters reported one person was trapped in their vehicle and worked to release them by 8.33am.

“The casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service.”

The incident caused severe traffic on the nearby A120 as the eastbound carriageway was left partially blocked.

Tailbacks went as far as the Marks Farm roundabout, but the traffic has since been cleared.

The East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Police have been contacted for comment.
