A HIGHLY anticipated annual Fayre returned with great fanfare, surpassing all expectations.
This year's Colchester Medieval Festival and Oyster Fayre witnessed remarkable growth and success, solidifying its position as a must-visit spectacle.
Described as "the biggest Medieval Fayre ever put up in Colchester" by Don Quinn, the director of Colchester Medieval Festival and Oyster Fayre, the event expanded by an impressive 30 per cent to celebrate the city's newly acquired status.

The festival showcased a multitude of captivating exhibitions and activities, ensuring there was something for everyone.
Mr Quinn said: "This is the biggest Medieval Fayre that we have ever put up in Colchester.
"I'd say it was 30 per cent bigger than the previous ones, to celebrate the new city status.
"We had wonderful exhibitions, armours for residents to try on, different crafts, displays and a terrific archery competition, which was one of the favourite attractions.
"Very importantly, we also had one of the last remaining groups of Mummers in the county, who put up medieval oral plays and wowed the audience.
"One of my favourites was a puppeteer, called Eun. I saw multiple groups of kids just sitting and watching it with absolute amazement.
"I also was charmed by it, as I loved his stories!"
Attendees were given the unique opportunity to try on authentic medieval armor, immersing themselves in the history and culture of the era.
Various crafts and displays added to the vibrant atmosphere, allowing visitors to engage with the artisans and appreciate their skill and craftsmanship.
The archery competition proved to be a major draw, captivating the crowd with its thrilling displays of precision and skill.
