A CARE home worker from Colchester has been shortlisted for a national award due to her commitment and knowledge. 

Leigh Owen, Black Swan Drummonds Care Home administration manager in Feering, has been shortlisted for an award in the National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards.

The National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities and aim to pay tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in providing quality care.

During 2022, Leigh led the home for three months while Black Swan recruited a new home manager, ensuring the home continued to run smoothly – including staff, rota and medication management.

Helen Moore, current manager at the care home, said: "Leigh is extremely knowledgeable and has been a great support to the staff team.

"I’m so grateful for everything she has done in supporting me and for keeping everything consistent and calm for the residents.

"She is totally committed to ensuring Drummonds runs safely and effectively and that residents continue to be at the centre of the care provided.

"We’re so proud of her for being shortlisted and we have our fingers crossed for the awards night itself."
