A LUXURY Aston Martin once owned by Sir Elton John has exceeded all expectations at auction in Colchester.
The Aston Martin Virage was expected to fetch between £12,000 and £14,000 when it went on sale at Reeman Dansie auctioneers but it ended up selling for £27,000.
The supercar was ordered new by Sir Elton, 76, and kitted out with a bespoke Sony sound system at a cost of almost £5,000.
Made to his personal requests, the vehicle was finished in a Rolls Royce colour of Seychelles blue and finished off with a blue piped cream leather interior.
It is now in the hands of an Aston Martin collector who is looking forward to bringing it back to life.
Auctioneer Lewis Rabett said: “The pre-sale estimate was well and truly surpassed. It exceeded all expectations.
“I think the extra dimension of it having a touch of celebrity was probably the reason it reached the price it did.
“He is quite a collector of Aston Martins and obviously a big fan of them so I am sure it won’t take much for him to get it into shape.”
