A WOMAN in her thirties had to be cut free from her car after an accident left the vehicle flipped on its side.

St Andrew’s Avenue in Colchester was closed between about 8.30pm and 10.30pm last night in response to the emergency.

The woman involved in the crash was freed from her car and taken to Colchester Hospital by paramedics.

A police spokesman said: "We are investigating a single-vehicle collision which took place shortly before 8.40pm on Tuesday in St Andrews Avenue, Colchester.

“A Renault Clio did not stop when requested by our officers.”

“A short time later the vehicle collided with a number of bollards.

“Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported however the road was closed whilst the incident was dealt with.

“A 35-year-old woman, from Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving under the influence of drugs, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

“She remains in custody for questioning.”

A fire brigade spokesman added: “We were called to a road traffic collision in St Andrews Avenue, Colchester, yesterday at 8.40pm.

“Two crews from Colchester attended and found a car on its side with a woman in her thirties trapped inside.

“Firefighters stabilised the vehicle, administered first aid and freed the casualty by removing the windscreen by 9.11pm. She was left in the care of the ambulance service.”

An ambulance spokesman said: "One ambulance was sent to St Andrew's Avenue (A133) in Colchester last night following reports of a road traffic collision.

"One woman was transported to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and care."

The road acts as a key route connecting Colchester city centre with Greenstead and the University of Essex.
