LOCAL lad turned pop sensation Olly Murs has said he likes "to support great businesses” after visiting a Colchester wedding shop ahead of tying the knot.

Abigail’s Collection & The Grooms Room, in the High Street, welcomed the singing superstar ahead of his wedding to Amelia Tank, rumoured to take place this summer.

During his visit the VIP guest, whose aptly-titled last album Marry Me went to Number 1 in December, browsed a selection of dapper suits with expert Rob Neill.

The Dear Darlin’ hitmaker also took time to speak to the shop’s “future boss lady” Arabella, who is Rob and fellow business owner Abi Neill’s 11-year-old daughter.

Speaking about his trip to the city centre store Witham songwriter Olly said: “Rob knows his stuff and it made sense for my groomsmen to keep it in Essex.

“Plus I’m a local boy at heart and like to support great businesses.

“The wedding planning is going very well. Amelia and I are super excited and grateful for the love and support - it is a really exciting and special year for us.”

In the past award-winners Abi and Rob have worked with the likes of Gok Wan, Rylan Clark, Vicky Pattison, Sophie and Jake Quickenden and drag star Cheryl Hole.

But Olly holds a special place in their hearts, not least because Arabella is such a huge admirer of the celebrity.

“When Olly came in she welcomed him at reception and tried not to be too starstruck but she was super professional,” added Abi.

“It was fantastic, we really like Olly and he is a great guy and very down to earth considering his massive success.

“We have worked with him before when he was best man for one of our grooms and we obviously did a good job because he came back to see us for his own wedding.

“We always said if he needed anything to get in touch and we’re so glad he phoned. It was such an honour.”

Abi and Rob, who have owned their wedding outfitters business for 18 years are, however, remaining tight-lipped about the suits Olly might chose for his big day.

Rob said: “Olly is particular about the fit and cut of clothing and he looks for detail - he knows what he likes and he naturally he looks good in a well cut suit.

“I couldn’t possibly comment on any decisions he has made regarding suits but put it this way, his groomsmen and of course Olly are going to look fantastic.”
