DRIVERS looking to travel through Colchester on the day of King Charles III’s historic visit may have to reconsider after council bosses approved a series of road closures.

High Street, Head Street, Culver Street West, Sir Issacs Walk, North Hill and East Hill will all be out of action next Tuesday from 7am until 2pm.

The restrictions have been put in place by Colchester Council to accommodate His Royal Highness’s trip to the city with the Queen Consort.

Motorists and cyclists will be unable to use the roads during the specified timeframe but emergency vehicles and pedestrians will still be permitted access.

There will also be an impact on bus services and the taxi ranks in High Street and Head Street will be temporarily relocated to North Hill.

During his visit, arranged in celebration of Colchester being awarded coveted city status, King Charles III will spend time at Colchester Castle and Colchester Library.

At the former he will speak with charity representatives, volunteers and refugees, and also unveil the name of Colchester Zoo’s newest baby white rhino.

After arriving at the library, meanwhile, the royals will spend time with Age UK workers, children, television star Dermot O’Leary and author Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
