Police officers who raided a property discovered more than 100 wraps of cocaine and heroin worth in excess of £1,000, a court has heard.

When officers entered the property in Crouch Street, Colchester, in June 2019 they found 17-year-old Jamari Blake in bed and noticed he appeared nervous, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

During a search they found 92 wraps of crack cocaine and 16 wraps of heroin, as well as a mobile phone which contained messages consistent with the supply of drugs.

The drugs had a street value of between £1,130 and £2,260.

Blake, now aged 21 and of Hordings Road, Harlow, admitted possession with intent to supply heroin and cocaine, robbery, assault and having a bladed article.

He was given a two-year community order, a 60-day rehabilitation requirement and ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work.

Judge Nicola Talbot-Hadley said Blake had already served the equivalent of a 52 month sentence.

The court heard that the assault causing actual bodily harm and bladed article offences arose out of an incident in Basildon when a group of youths chased a 16-year-old boy.

When they caught up with him they assaulted him and he suffered a 1cm stab wound on the palm of his hand.

The robbery charge arose out of an incident in an underpass in Vicarage Road, Chelmsford in May 2020 when the victim was approached by Blake and was told he would stab him if he didn’t take off his Canada Goose coat.

He then told the victim to take off his Gucci bag and then demanded he hand over his watch despite being told it was an 18th birthday present from his mother.

The victim was then punched and kicked, and a bank card in his bag was used to make £85 worth of online purchases.

David Tremain, for Blake, said his client had been 17 at the time of the drug offences and there had been an element of exploitation.
