PLANS have been submitted to transform office space into a unit housing businesses including a supermarket, karaoke rooms and a restaurant.

Four linked plans have been filed with Colchester Council, seeking approval to convert a building in Ballantyne Drive, Colchester, from its former use as office space.

One of the plans is to allow change of use for the UniMart Asian Supermarket, which opened in July, covering 40 square meters on the ground floor.

The proposal will include internal changes such as the repositioning of the stairs.

The second plan is for a change of use from office/commercial space to karaoke rooms and office space, while another is for a change of use to a bar and restaurant.

The final proposal is for a change of use to a shop selling bubble tea and hot food.

Bubble tea is a tea-based drink that originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s.

It most commonly consists of tea accompanied by chewy tapioca balls, but it can be made with other toppings as well.

Colchester Council will have the final say.
