FAST food restaurant chain McDonald's will close all its branches for much of Monday as a mark of respect for the Queen's funeral.

Following King Charles' announcement that next Monday will be a bank holiday, a string of supermarket retailers have also announced they are going to close all day, or at least until 5pm.

McDonald's, too, will close, but has added its chains will re-open at 5pm, at which point deliveries will become available again.

Colchester has four McDonald's restaurants, and the other 1,296 chains across Britain will also be shut for most of the day.

With Monday operating as a standard Bank Holiday, individual businesses can still decide whether or not they can remain open – but with the Queen's funeral the first state funeral since that of Winston Churchill's in 1965, many will not be opening their doors.

Colchester's branches of Tesco Express will be open from 5pm.
