A DOG who got stuck 10ft down a cliff side was rescued by a heroic team of coastguards.

Milly was out for a walk with her owner at Walton on the Naze when the pair became separated.

It is understood Milly toppled down the cliff side to a ledge where her owner couldn’t reach her.

The owner dialled 999 for the coastguard and three teams were sent to perform the nail-biting rescue operation.

An hour later, Milly was safely reunited with her relieved owner who posed for pictures in celebration.

A spokeswoman for Thames Coastguard said: “At just before 6pm on Friday there was a report to a dog over the cliff at Walton on the Naze.

“Walton and Clacton coastguard teams were dispatched and they managed to recover the dog and reunite it with its owner.”

The rescue operation involved a ropes to reach Milly before she was gently scooped up in a bag and taken to safety.

The call out to the coastguard teams on Friday came not long after they’d arrived back home following the successful Clacton air show.

The teams were paged to attend the rescue scene.

A team from South Woodham Ferrers also attended.
