TV star Robson Green looked the part as he rumbled along Clacton’s seafront on a scooter for a new show.

Crowds gathered by Martello beach on Tuesday as Green rolled into town to talk to old mods and rockers about the blistering rivalries of the 60s and 70s.

He was filming an episode for a new series looking at interesting tales from the British coast.

A stretch of the lower promenade was closed off as Green and joined a group of local bikers to ride along the seafront on vintage scooters.

Linda White, of Clacton, went down to the seafront to see the star after hearing he would be in town.

She said: “We went down to see what was going on and there was quite a crowd.

“People were looking at all the old bikes they had lined up, and talking to Robson Green. It was a lot of fun.

“It made my day seeing him down there. People were going up to him and taking lots of selfies with him. He took so many pictures.

“He came across as a really friendly bloke and seemed like he was really enjoying himself.

“Apparently they were filming all day, and he was still there sitting on the sea wall eating chips at 7pm!”

The ITV show is likely to be called Tales From the Coast with Robson Green and is due to air later this year or early next year.

It is being filmed by documentary company Shiver.

A spokesman said: “Clacton was the scene of some infamous clashes between mods and rockers.

“For the filming we united some old mods and rockers and did a ride along by the seafront.

“It was fantastic and we met some real characters. We can’t wait for people to find out Robson got on when it airs.”

Tendring Council helped the production crew by securing the area during filming.

TV cameras have been a fixture in Clacton recently.

Sky News was also broadcasting about the EU referendum near Clacton Pier on Tuesday, while an episode of CBeebies children’s show Our Family, filmed in Holland Haven, will air next month.

Council communications boss Nigel Brown said: ““Robson could not have had better weather for filming for the show.

“We have dealt with three requests in the last couple of weeks and we always try to accommodate the crews as it is excellent exposure for the area.”
