THERE'S barely a moment to paws as preparations get under way for a fun day for dogs and their owners.

Bark in the Park will take place in Colchester's Castle Park on Sunday, August 9, led by Colchester Council's Animal Control Team.

Attractions on the day include YouTube sensation K9 Aqua Sports UK Ltd, which will be holding a competition to find the dog that can jump the furthest into a 40ft pool of water. Registration will be on the day.

There will also be action for spectators from the Essex dog display team, the East Anglian Staffordshire bull terrier display team, and Totally Terriers.

The day will be attended by dog behaviourists, there will be free dog micro-chipping, veterinary support, canine caterers and doggy trade stands, pet photography, dog charities, entertainment for children and food stalls.

Owners will also have the chance to enter their dogs into the various free events that will take place during the day.

Categories include: best trick, best young dog handler, smiliest staffy, most gorgeous rescue, handsomest dog, prettiest bitch and calmest tail.

The top three placed in each category will go through to the best in show class.

Doors open at 10am and entry costs £5 for adults, but is free for children and dogs.

Tina Bourne, councillor responsible for Housing and Public Protection, said: “This event is a great opportunity for dog owners to have fun with their family and pets, but also a time to consider getting them microchipped free of charge and talk to other dog owners and specialists about responsible dog ownership.

“I would encourage everyone to enter their pets in one of the competitions – we’re all really looking forward to seeing all of the dogs showing off their talent.”

It is about two-years-old, was found in West Bergholt over the weekend and is not microchipped and does not have a collar.

The owners should contact the warden on 01206 282581.

The dog will stay with the warden until Monday when efforts will then be made to find it a new home.
