DOZENS of dogs took part in a fun day to raise money for the Essex Air Ambulance.

They dragged their owners to the charity’s first Heli Hounds Dog Day at Earls Colne Business Park on Sunday, before taking off on a five-and-a-half mile trek around the countryside.

Wendy Marcon-Knightley, of Essex Air Ambulance, said it had been a great success.

She added: “It is the first time we have held it and it went really well, which was great, because it was a bit of an unknown.

“In total, 262 dogs turned up and from looking at the initial figures we have raised £2,300 so far, which is amazing.

“We were originally hoping for £1,000.

“All of the dogs were really well behaved and everyone had a great time.

“After the success, we will absolutely be looking to run it again next year.”

Stalls were also set up at the site.

Dogs were presented with a goody bag as they passed the finish line.
