A STOLEN car crashed into a lamp post outside temporary accommodation for pregnant women, throwing debris through windows and on to cars.

Police were following the stolen car when it crashed into the lamp post and a brick pillar outside the temporary accommodation in Harwich Road, Colchester.

Eyewitnesses said the driver and three passengers were in the car and all but one ran away.

Firefighters were called to the scene and made the car safe and carried out first aid on a 16-year-old passenger until paramedics arrived.

Police officers later arrested a 16-year-old who was believed to have been driving the stolen car.

He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and injury caused by an accident.

Gazette:

A second 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

Police are still hunting for a third suspect.
